How are IGCSEs assessed?

The IGCSE courses are assessed through final examinations, taken at the end of Grade 10. Additionally, most subjects involve coursework completed at varying stages throughout the two-year program. Students receive a letter grade on a scale from A* to F, awarded by Cambridge based on the outcomes of these assessments and standardized against student performance worldwide. At TASIS Portugal, we support our students in preparing for these external assessments while recognizing that their significance may vary depending on each student’s future university plans. In addition to examination grades, students receive TASIS course grades issued each term for every subject. These provide an indication of their current working level and can be translated into GPA or other academic measures—ensuring that a broader view of student progress is captured beyond the final exams.

To progress to the IBDP, students need to pass at least six IGCSE subjects (scoring at least a C). At TASIS Portugal, each student has the option to study up to 12 IGCSE subjects; however, the majority take nine or ten, which is the global standard.

Grading System IGCSEs: A* to G
TASIS: A* to F
