The TASIS Portugal Dance Academy
 

The TASIS Dance Academy offers young people the opportunity to train in a variety of dance disciplines including ballet, jazz, and contemporary.

Designed to encourage fitness, appreciation of dance, and for those interested, a path to post-secondary study or vocational training and even a career in the arts. Students are credited with an additional course on their transcript, and this activity usually supplants other after-school activities. The goals of the TASIS Dance Academy include:

• Promoting fitness, a healthy lifestyle, teamwork, self-discipline, musicality, and creativity 

• Building confidence and self-esteem 

• Inspiring an appreciation for a range of dance styles 

• Setting the foundations for further studies and training in dance, such as A Level Dance, the Creative and Media Diploma, and vocational training (depending on the interests and aptitudes of the student) 

The Academy is open to students in 1st Grade and above, and teaches both beginners and students who have previous dance training, those interested in dance as a form of exercise and those who want to train more seriously. Students may select a 2, 3, or 4-day program and additional fees are prorated by the number of hours of instruction. Dance Academy uniforms can be purchased from a local dance shop and online.

Dance Academy Offerings

Classical Ballet is a beautiful and highly disciplined art form that can also be a creative outlet, cultivating imagination, self-expression and musicality. It develops physical skills such as co-ordination, control, spatial awareness, stamina, strength and flexibility, as well as physical and mental confidence. Attending Ballet classes can inspire a strong independent work ethic and tremendous self-discipline. Ballet also provides the fundamental building blocks for many other forms of dance and encourages broader knowledge of and respect for other art forms and other cultures. 

Jazz is an energetic dance style with high kicks and leaps, quick turns and intricate footwork. Each lesson begins with a warm up and stretch, it then progresses through to technique and skill break down. The class focuses on choreographed routines that vary from Lyrical, to Broadway and Commercial while assisting with building flexibility, strength and co-ordination. 

Contemporary is a style of dance that relies on storytelling through movement and emotion. It draws on inspiration from ballet, jazz, and modern styles while blending age-old technique with abstract motion. Contemporary dance pushes dancers’ boundaries and allows for a freedom of expression. 

Hip-hop classes are packed with a variety exercises as dance to a up beat tempo, jumping and stretching designed to foster trust in their own abilities, and to develop balance and a good coordination. The great beat from the hip-hop music will make sure than now one can still in the room. These foundational dance skills pave the way for learning dance, music and coordination in a fun way with the steps from diverse genres of modern dance and hip-hop. The dancers in this class will experience a great energy and plenty of movements and dancing.

Dance Fun classes let the child experience different dance styles, learning dance steps from Ballet, Jazz, contemporary, and hip-hop dance. We also teach children to listen and count music, jumping, rolling and stretching. This class is designed to foster trust in their own abilities, and to develop balance and coordination. These foundational dance skills allows the student to experience improvising and plenty of dancing styles.
