Mathematics in High School

TASIS Portugal is a truly international school – nevertheless, there is one universal language that unites us: Mathematics. Math itself does not differ as we cross borders or cultures, yet the sequencing and methods of instruction are the things that make a significant difference in terms of knowledge and understanding for students.

We have researched curricula from across the world and decided upon the following to ensure successful mathematical learning for our High School students:

In Grades 9 and 10, we switch from the Singapore Math to the IGCSE curriculum, a widely recognized framework seen as the gold standard for students of this age group across the globe. Covering a broad range of topics and concepts, this curriculum allows students to access all necessary elements of Mathematics by the age of 16, culminating in their first set of formalized external assessments at the end of Grade 10.

For Grades 11 and 12, we use the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program, which is seen as the most successful curriculum when preparing students for life after school. Students can choose from three different paths at this stage, depending on the level of Math they require in their future career or pathway to third-level education.

In all, we have ensured the best route for your child’s journey to learning Mathematics at TASIS Portugal. Nevertheless, our main goal is to encourage a love of Math and enable students to see how it can be utilized in their daily lives.
